IBS Intelligence: Asseco SEE expands Ziraat Bank core banking software contract

Turkey’s banking group, Ziraat, is growing its presence in the Balkans, with operations underpinned by the PUB 2000 and bApO core systems from Asseco SEE.

Turkey’s banking group, Ziraat, is growing its presence in the Balkans, with operations underpinned by the PUB 2000 and bApO core systems from Asseco SEE. The bApO system is already in place at Ziraat’s subsidiary in Bosnia and PUB 2000 in Kosovo, and the partnership has now been extended to a new operation in Montenegro.

The vendor says the implementation was carried out in ‘less than three months’ and the new bank is open for business.

Ziraat turned to local suppliers – Asseco SEE among them – following its U-turn on rolling out a standardised core system, TCS Bancs, across its international network of 50+ locations. The project was initiated in 2011 but scrapped a couple of years later.

Asseco SEE has been expanding outside its traditional markets of Central and Eastern Europe over the last year. It has signed an agreement with Maroc Telecom for the supply of its payment gateway solution NestPay.

Closer to home, Asseco SEE has been working with ING Bank in Romania for its payment terminal network and has inked POS outsourcing contracts with NLB Montenegrobanka in Montenegro and Istarska Kreditna Banka in Croatia.

Meanwhile, its parent – Poland-based Asseco Group – has recently purchased a fellow banking software provider, Exictos, in Portugal, giving it a foothold in the Portuguese-speaking markets of Africa.

The vendor’s latest financial results reveal growth for the fifth consecutive quarter – with a 22% increase for its banking business unit.
