Technobank 2015 - The Race for Mobile Client has Started

Technobank 2015 round table conclusions

The sale of smart phones increased by almost 30% globally during 2014 in relation to 2013, reaching 1.4 billion delivered pieces. Out of these over 400 million sold phones were equipped with NFC technology enabling mobile contactless payments (NFC technology).

This trend enables banks, mobile operators and retail chains to provide their customers with the opportunity of contactless payments through mobile phones containing mobile wallet with several digital cards (HCE technology). This technology will be already widely used in a few years, which was the conclusion of the round table at the 15th Technobank, which was attended by Asseco SEE, leading global payment brands Visa and MasterCard, as well as First Data, leading European processor of transactions performed by payment cards.

“Half of the population has smart phones, and it is estimated that they are used at least two hours a day. The banking sector is also facing the digital transformation, but banks are not quite ready nor prepared for these changes. Therefore banks have to start searching for best practice of other industries and start introducing changes through the introduction of digital technology and the usage of different channels and contactless payments, adopting a user oriented approach, transferring from the sales to consulting model, as well as through engaging social networks,” said Piotr Widacki, expert for digital bank transformation and Head of Consultancy, Asseco SEE.

Mobile banking is a trend which has already been developing for approximately 10 years. The change which has been occurring on global markets in the past several years represents the ever increasing need for mobile payments which are supposed to replace the usage of cash. In order to enable this, payment devices (POS) have to be equipped in such a way to enable contactless payments.

NFC technology enables mobile phone manufacturers, such as Apple and Samsung, to compete in this area. Mobile contactless payments enable the introduction of new solutions for loyalty stimulation, promotions and discounts. They are safe and slightly faster than card payments.
